Memorial Day From The Spunky Old Broad

Here it is Memorial Day and it’s important we remember not only
the men and women who serve us each and every day in the military,
but all the people who are important in our own lives.  Some times
we take people for granted, and it’s nice to tell them once in a
while how much they mean to us.

I went to an Argentine Tango show last night.  I have been so
enthralled with “Dancing with the Stars” that I finally had to go
and see the experts.  Except for starting 45 minutes late (which
annoys me to no end), it was wonderful.  I couldn’t believe how
many people were in the audience who were equally enthralled.
It brought me back to my dancing days, when I could do just about
anything and loved being with a partner who made me look good.

Today I saw “Sex and the City 2″ and loved that as well.  it got
a horrible write-up from all the critics, which usually means I’m
going to adore it.  I smiled the whole time, had some real loud
laughs and the clothes were amazing (as were the bodies of the
4 wonderful women).  I was a little misty with some of the scenes
between Carrie and Mr. Big, because it made me realize how much
I still miss my husband.  We had such a great connection and I
still hear his answers to me when I say something that elicits a
response.

Had dinner with two sets of friends on two different evenings, and
it’s so nice catching up.  One has been a friend (she reminded me)
for 50 years, ever since she was a student of mine at my modeling
school.  The other is a friend from college–which is even longer.
They are the best!

Question and Answer:

Q:  I don’t know what to buy.  Every where I go, everyting seems
designed for the younger woman.  How can I look sharp, without
looking ridiculous?

A:  Boy, you must have read my mind.  At the Argentine Tango
event, I saw more people dressed in what they shouldn’t be wearing,
than what they should.  You can never go wrong with classics.
Solid colors and the right colors can do more for you than a lot
of prints or patterns.  Emphasize your good areas and play down
what isn’t the best–like legs, hips, bustline or mid section.
If you don’t have a waist, leave off the belt.  If your legs
aren’t good, have the skirt below the knee or mid-knee or wear
pants.  If your bustline is too small, add some frills.  If it’s
too large, it should be plain with a simple piece of jewelry.
You can call a personal shopper in most department stores and
they will help you select your wardrobe.  Once you get an idea of
what they are choosing, you can start doing it on your own. If
the event is an important one, it is worthwhile doing this.  You
can even have an image consultant go through your closet and get
rid of things that are no longer suitable, making way for the
things that are.  Don’t get swayed by the fashion trends.  Wear
what looks best on you.  Good luck!

Tips:

1.  The only limits you will experience are those you place on yourself.

2.  When confronted with difficult situations, use assertive statements
such as “I don’t believe that’s a fair appraisal of the situation” or
“I don’t deserve that kind of treatment.”  People won’t mess with you
and will see you as self-assured, confident and determined.

3.  When you enter a room, pause for 10 seconds.  It gives you a chance
to see who is there, assess the situation and get your bearings.
