Great Health From Your SOB

Hi everyone!  Sorry I’m a day late but it has been a busy week.  Had a great lunch meeting with The Commonwealth Institute at the American Airlines Arena.  Didn’t know they served such great food.  3 women were the guest speakers and all of them have done outstanding work.  3 different stories and 3 different backgrounds, but all accomplished.

Then had my annual check-up and I am in great health, except I need a bone density test (which I am getting tomorrow), blood work done (on Thursday) and in June they want an Echo.  But I continue to do my daily workouts so I am feeling terrific.

Did our teleseminar on diet last night and if you missed it, you can listen to the replay at 712-432-1282   260758# It’s well worth it.

Went to another GKIC meeting which was fantastic and there is always so much new to learn.  People ask me why I keep going to meetings but you can always find a new technique.  Ditto with a Florida Speakers Assn meeting on Saturday—a whole new way of involving your audience.

Then I met with an old friend for lunch who is going in for hip…

Over 50 Can Still Have Fun

16th March, 2011 - Posted by gaylecarson - No Comments

It was spring break but being over 50 didn’t diminish my enjoyment. I spent the evening on Lincoln Rd having dinner and watching all the “sights” go by. You can find every size, shape, and type of dress here and everyone enjoys themselves with great abandon.
My favorite thing are the dogs however. Lincoln Rd. is the friendliest street I know when it comes to dogs and they also come in a variety of sizes, shapes and breeds. I counted over 75 dogs going by as I ate dinner.
Now for you faint of heart who aren’t pet lovers, this may be unimportant, but for those of us who just “light up” when a dog walks by, it is 7th heaven.
My friend and I had a delightful time and then we walked the “Road.” I found a Skechers store and bought a pair of the new “Shape Ups” and they are groovy. I’m going to try them on the plane this week and see how I feel.
I was in Palm Beach over the weekend and had a delightful dinner with friends there as well.
All these social events are really making me work…

IT’S YOUR LIFE–LOVE IT

11th March, 2011 - Posted by gaylecarson - No Comments

Every once in a while, people tell me I lead a charmed life.  It’s true.  I do live the way I want to, but I have also experienced a lot of bumps along the road.  Most of you know I lost my husband a year ago, lost a son before that, had custody of a grandchild (now I’m a great grandmother), and survived breast cancer three times.  But it has never stopped me from living life the way I wanted to.  And you shouldn’t let anything stop you either.  Times are hard now for many of us, but it doesn’t cost anything to smile, or pay someone a compliment, or even enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.  So why not stop feeling sorry for yourself, go out and find someone you can enjoy a conversation, dinner or a movie with, and get on with it.  You design your life, no one else.  People can try to put a crimp in it, but you can always say no.  And like me, I look at my two cats and one dog, and know there is real love out there.

Boomers and Mid Life

9th March, 2011 - Posted by gaylecarson - No Comments

Spent a wonderful time in Key West attending an advanced speaker school.  They gave me a great aha!  I have been writing to all you wonderful boomers and beyond about being Spunky Old Broads.  Their advice was that I really needed to appeal to the children of the S.O.B.’s  Maybe that’s true–I really don’t know, but if it is, I will need to change my message a little bit and get the facts out to that population.

Celebrated my son’s birthday on Friday, and he is a member of that generation.  Often called “The Sandwich Generation” because they take care of their kids and their parents, he tells me how lucky he is that I am so active and independent.  And I do know that I have gotten a tremendous response from men who are in that category and are trying to find solutions for their moms.

So stay tuned and we shall see where this all goes.  In the meantime, it is sunny and warm here in Miami Beach and we have nothing like the snow storms and cold we are seeing everywhere else in the country.

Had a most spectacular time on Saturday.  The president of my college (Emerson College) is retiring in June after 20 years.  Although I went to a celebration for her in Boca Raton at the Polo Club the end of January,  they had another celebration for her in Los Angeles this past weekend.  Since I am m San Diego, I thought I might as well drive up for the night.  (Had to come back the same day because I had Abby with me).

Well, it was at the home of Kevin Bright who was the Executive Producer of friends which was high up in the Hollywood Hills and huge!!!!  Got my picture taken with Henry Winkler (remember the Fonz), Maria Menounos (gorgeous and tall), and the young man who plays Frankie Valli in the Jersey Boys.  Vin DiBona was there (exec producer of America’s Funniest Videos), Doug Herzog who heads up USA network, the guy who is Director of Publicity for Showtime (all Emersonians).

Makes me so proud I was a part of this school.  And I will include the pics when I am on a computer that has the hook-ups I need.

Met with Marlene Siersema today…

Mid Life Crisis

4th March, 2011 - Posted by gaylecarson - No Comments

Do you feel as if you are going through a mid life crisis?  Do you feel less energized and powerful?  Could it be that every thing you’ve worked for in the last many years is falling apart?  Well, if you answered yes, you probably are hitting that mid life crisis point, although it happens at different ages for various folk.  It’s difficult to ignore your body when it starts to ache a little more, or when people or events you mention are not remembered by the people you are with, and it’s even worse when your job is suddenly considered irrelevant.  But guess what?  You are still a vital, thriving, giving human being who is a value to the people around you.  You may just have to look at yourself in a whole new light and discover your USP.  In sales that means “unique selling proposition.”  However, in your life, it’s what you bring to the table that no one else does.  If there is ever a reason to re-invent yourself, a mid life crisis is one of them.  Ask your friends.  They’ll tell you things about yourself you can’t even imagine.  I have been re-inventing myself so many times…

Spunky Old Broad’s 50th Reunion

2nd March, 2011 - Posted by gaylecarson - No Comments

It was everything I could have hoped for.  Lots of dancing with the youngsters, a video for the archives, a skit on the stage of the Majestic Theatre, a reading of my book at Barnes and Noble, and great reconnections with classmates.  And on the way back while checking my email, found a friend on Facebook who I had been looking for, for 10 years.

It also made me realize even more on how fortunate I was to go to school at Emerson College.  It gave me all the confidence and professionalism I needed to make it big.  Today, it is even a college of greater opportunity, doing fantastic things and building a beautiful campus in Hollywood.  If you or anyone in your family ever want a career in the arts, communication, creative writing, journalism, film, and all related areas, you must give it a look.

I came back to my wonderful pets and lots of wet weather.  But the sun is shining now and I am back at the computer doing my thing.

P.S.  The guy can still throw the ball and even does yoga!
