Windy Days From Your SOB

June 7, 2010

It’s been an interesting week, interrupted by our famous thunder
storms.  We had 78 mile an hour winds at my home which is the
same as a Category One Hurricane.  Hopefully, that’s not an omen
of what’s to come this hurricane season.  Lots of palm fronds
down, but all is settled right now.

Went to a fantastic concert of Spanish Guitar, Oud and Dumbeck
at the Bass Art Museum near me.  Always interesting to hear
new instruments.  Took an ethics course for my re-certification
as a Management Consultant and wouldn’t it be wonderful if all
the places we visited practiced good ethics.  Also finally saw
“Letters to Juliet” which was fabulous and I wanted a shining
knight to ride up on his horse just for me.  Got a clean bill of
health from my G.P. although will have a EKG done just for the
heck of it and blood work too.  Met with some new business
contacts and hope some new relationships were born.

But the most interesting piece of news for us SOB’s is the Al and
Tipper Gore separation.  According to statistics, the divorce
rate of 60 plus is going up.  I’m sure this causes trauma in the
lives of the women involved, especially if they have never been
on their own making social and financial plans, and especially
having to begin to fend for themselves.  That’s where we as SOB’s
come in.  We’re here to help, so if you know anyone who is in
this situation, be sure and have them be in touch with me so I
can point them in the right direction.  In fact, we are starting
a new membership site and will have all kinds of advice for our
members including planning for your legacy, money tips, health
info, personal safety and of course teleseminars.

But the important question to ask yourself is, am I still in
love with my spouse?  You can love them, but are you in love
with them, and that’s the question I think the Gores are facing.
You either grow together or apart and this seems to be their
situation.  I guess that’s why I miss my husband so much because
I was definitely “in love” with him.  Maybe you need to put
that extra spark back in your life and do some special things
together.  Anyway, quite a shocker and we are here for you.

Question and Answer:

Q:  I live alone and am not sure where I should be spending my
social time.  Any advice?

A:  You didn’t give me a whole lot of information, so I’m not
sure your physical or financial situation.  I will try to give
you some hints and hope they help.  I love going to movies (if
they’re good) and I go by myself, so perhaps you might try that.
If there are hobbies or interests you have, check the papers or
online and see if those activities are offered where you are and
go and see how you enjoy them.  You will find people who like
what you do and develop new friendships.  I have someone I met
who meets me twice a month for dinners.  You can also take a
trip through elder hostels (not as old as it sounds) and they
usually have singles who go on them so you can either room with
someone new or stay by yourself, however, you will make friends
on the tour.  You might also have something you always wanted
to try, like a new language or a dance class, and you can enroll
in those.  Hope this helps and if you need any other ideas, let
me know.

Tips:
1.  No one can motivate anyone but themselves, so surround yourself
with the items and people who will add to your happiness.
2.  Write down what your ideal life would look like in three years
if you began planning it right now.  See what you need to tweak to
make it happen.
3.  Put your toe out and take the first step.  You won’t know if the
path is right until you try it.
