Women Over 50 Can Still Learn!

Here I am in Orlando at the National Speakers Association convention.  This is my 30th in a row and as my husband would have said “Don’t you know it yet?”   But I must tell you these are the most creative, bright people you’d want to meet in one spot and there are new ideas flying back and forth like crazy.  I already have at least 5 new ones written down and of course now the thing is to implement them.  I also had the honor of being elected as a Life Member of the Florida Speakers Association which is our local chapter.

Believe it or not, after all these years, I may be getting reconstruction on my breasts.  There’s a new procedure out which is not major surgery and the doctor who developed it is right in Miami.   I have a few more things I need to take care of before I do it, but it looks like a go.  Wow!  At my age, I’m going finally going to be a “hottie.”  But in reality, it should make my chest area far less tight and give me some comfort which I haven’t had  in a long time.

Had dinner tonight with my ex-dancing partner from high school.  He is still in great shape and weighs the same as he did in high school.  We always pick up our conversation as if we have never been apart.  It’s terrific.

Question and Answer:

Q:  I am having the time of my life and I’m over 50.  Most of my friends have gone into a state of depression as the big 5-0 approaches.  Am I a little off my rocker?

A:  No, you are just in a very healthy place.  You are what the S.O.B. movement is all about.  This should be the time of your life.  You have entered the time when you can use your experience for the benefit of yourself and others.   You can volunteer, mentor, go on trips, join book clubs, learn a new skill and enjoy your job because you’ve been through it all.  Congratulations!  As a matter of fact, I would even invite you to write some tips that would help your fellow S.O.B’ers.  We love you!

Tips:
1.Listen to your own body and mind and make your own decisions.
2.Find a reason to stay in touch with your family and friends who aren’t nearby.
3.You are in charge of what and who enters your life.
