Today is Labor Day and a lazy one for most people. It is also my
parent’s anniversary. They gave me the model of a happy marriage
and I must say that I chose a man very much like my father. Easy
going, loved his wife and family, did for others etc. My husband
was a little more of a dreamer and experimenter, but perhaps that
was a sign of the times. My dad was a product of the depression
but still took care of everyone and was a community leader. He
was also President of the NY Pharmaceutical Assn, even though his
pharmacy was in a very small town. My son tells me the best thing
that ever happened to me, was being born to my parents and the
best thing that ever happened to him was being born to my husband
and me.
Well, it was quite a week. I did two radio shows and also headed
up to NYC by my lonesome for some R&R. Saw “Memphis” and “Promises
Promises” and loved them both. Went on an NBC tour and did a fake
broadcast which you may get to see if I ever get it posted, visited
some restaurants, had a great hotel room in the middle of everything
and didn’t meet an unfriendly person in the bunch. I was going to
cancel because of the storm warnings, but I had 3 beautiful days.
NYC was packed with people everywhere. Sure didn’t look like a
recession to me.
Had brunch with my daughter, granddaughter and great-grandson today
and met their dog Chester for the first time. He is an Australian
shepherd mix, and is the cutest, softest thing ever. A wonderful
addition to their family and a great playmate for my great-gfandson.
It’s almost like they’re brothers. My dog, Abby, had some kind of
infection while I was gone, and I had to hospitalize her. She seems
back to normal today, and I for one am grateful.

Question and Answer:
Q: You seem to have it all. And yet you’ve been through so much.
How do you keep it going?
A: Ah–the question of the century! How does anyone keep it going?
I’m not the only one with major crises and problems in life, but
when you get down to it, what are your choices? You either smile
and go forward, or you mope, feel sorry for yourself, get depressed
and put yourself into a physical and mental funk. Life isn’t easy
and you have to be strong to live in it well. In fact, that’s the
whole basis of my “9 Secrets to Living a Regret Free Life.” You
have to keep going and you may have a different way of doing it than
I do. But you are no good to anyone including yourself if you
wallow in self pity. So you have to get up with a smile and the
intention of having a great day, and face every obstacle with calm
and wisdom. I am lucky because I am strong both mentally and
physically, but I work at both. My parents raised me with a good
structure of accountability and responsibility so it just comes
with the territory. I also have the stress reducers of my pets and
my exercise. It still isn’t easy but it makes it manageable.

Tips:
1. Ethics are important. What will you do to get what you want?
2. The phone is a powerful tool whose purpose is to help us achieve
the results we want. Start using it again.
3. Don’t spend another day without experiencing the joys of a new
“a-ha.”
