Sorry I’m a little late but I didn’t have access to a computer believe it or not. Unfortunately, I didn’t take my laptop because my friend said she had a computer, but it didn’t have the programs on it I needed, so I was at a dead stop for several days.
I went up to my high school reunion in Albany, New York and it was fantastic. They asked my old dancing partner and I to dance as part of a “Dancing with the Stars” program (we hadn’t danced in 55 years), and we had a breakfast the next morning, and all I can say is, my classmates are the same terrific bunch they were eons ago, and my home town has changed a lot, but my gal friend who I stayed with ( a friend from kindergarten on) is just as great as she was.
I also gave a speech in San Diego last week, but when I got to where I was going, all the power was out. (Remember the 101 degrees last week?) So I did it by candlelight and felt like I was in a séance. The women were great however, and were very attentive.
Went to another industry event and it was interesting to see how enthusiastic everyone was about where things are going, even though the news isn’t always good. I discovered a great new meeting venue in San Diego and also contributed to a charity they were hosting.
The best news however is that I had my quarterly checkup and everything is A-O.K. That’s what makes it all worth while.
Question and Answer:
Q: I’m all about goal setting but sometimes it seems as if everything just goes awry and nothing seems to work. How do you stay motivated to stay the course?
A: I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “Life is what happens as you’re making plans.” And that’s the truth. As long as you have your goals, and you’ve broken them into yearly, quarterly, monthly, weekly and daily segments, you’ll be o.k. What is it you have to take action on daily to make the other parts work? It could be just one phone call, or even reading an article or going to a particular event. As long as you are following your plan (even with all the distractions), you should be o.k. I always write down 3 things I did that day to inch me towards my goal. Believe me, it isn’t easy, but it works. Good luck!
Tips:
- Keep all meetings on track. Start and end on time and limit discussion time.
- Trade your self-consciousness in for assertiveness. Honestly evaluate your skills.
3. Be realistic about time and give yourself enough of it to complete your task.
