Holidays and Family

30th November, 2010 - Posted by gaylecarson - No Comments

Last week was wonderful.  We celebrated Thanksgiving with 13 people and my great grandson.  A lot of work, but well worth it.  Many friends and family as well.  It was my husband’s favorite holiday so we keep the tradition going and feel like he is still with us.  It was our anniversary week as well and today would have been my son’s 53rd birthday.  So a lot of sentiment going on.

I also went to the opera.  Not sure how I feel about it.  I love music and now that they have all the subtitles above, it is much easier to understand. And of course they give you a synopsis in the program. I like easy listening the best, then show tunes, country and everything else except hard rock.  Not a fan of that.  I studied classical music for 13 years and even graduated from a music school, but don’t get a chance to play anymore.

I also saw Michael Jackson’s “This is it.”  It was fantastic.  No matter what you thought of him, he was a most talented, soulful, loving person and we have lost a great artist.  The movie house was packed even though it has been on for almost…

Gayle Carson After Thanksgiving

November 29, 2010

Well, Thanksgiving is over and I can tell you, with 14 people and
no dishwasher (a long story) I personally did the dishes and it
took 2 1/2 hours.  But it’s a tradition and since I don’t cook,
I am the designated washer.  It was wonderful being with friends
and family, but missed my dear hubby!

And then Saturday was our anniversary.  I went out to dinner with
another couple who were married in November and with whom I’ve
been friends for over 50 years.  She was a student of mine way
back when, and we are still friends and confidantes.  While I
wish Norm could have been with us physically, I know he was there
in spirit and love.  I tell you, he was one in a million and I
know how lucky I was to have him all those years.

I also went to see “Burlesque” over the weekend, and although the
critics panned it, I of course loved it because of the music, the
dancing, the wonderful bodies and because it made me smile.  When
I go to the movies, I…

Thanksgiving with The Spunky Old Broad

November 22, 2010

I just spent Sunday starting to clean out my office because I
am slowly going to transition into my house.  Well, can you
imagine what I am beginning to find going through 40 years of
“stuff.”  I can’t believe how prolific I was.  Not only did
I write and create tons of material, but I was chair of more
committees than anyone should ever have access to.  I also had
more projects going than one human should ever attempt.  It
makes me feel as if I’m now standing still.

My son told me I should be enjoying life now, and not worry
about what was, and that I should be proud of everthing I’ve
done.  Well, I am, but I also want to be doing so much more.
I have filled our recyling bin and just did one small portion.
It will probably take a full year before it’s all organized, but
oh boy, when it is done, peace should prevail.

Had my second mastermind meeting with my group of women friends
and I think it is amazing how women can be so smart…

GKIC With The Spunky Old Broad

November 15, 2010

Just back from attending the GKIC Info Summit in Baltimore and
thankfully we were blessed with great weather.  And I must say
the beds in the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront were the most
comfortable in a hotel in a long time.  I cuddled up in the covers
and pillows and that’s all she wrote! Out like a light.

The speakers were great and friendships were renewed and now I
am all excited that I have 3 weeks at home.  So are my pets who
were ecstatic that I arrived back to love them up. .  Most people
think you just relax when you go to a meeting like this, but it
is constant study and learning the whole time.

The one thing I am noticing is a new gentler approach to how you
do business.  And I like it.  Courtesy seemed to have gone out the
window for a while, and it’s nice to see people smiling more and
being grateful for who they are.

I am going to be starting teleseminars and would very much like
to know what subjects you would like to hear…

November 8, 2010

What a week!  Spoke at the San Diego Women’s Network to a wonderful group of women and had an equally fantastic Mastermind Session with Women’s Wisdom there.  Met a few of my friends for lunch and then winged my way back for my surgery.

What a joke!  I was at the hospital by 6:15 a.m. and because of all kinds of flukes was still sitting there at 2:30 p.m. with no hope of getting in.  Well they don’t call me the Spunky Old Broad for nothing.  I refused to go home and said I knew the insurance company wouldn’t pay for another round of “pre-ops” and I had to be taken in that day.

After all, I had flown back from the West Coast just for the pre-ops, flown back and then flew in the night before for the surgery.  After much pushing and shoving I got taken and

finally got home about 9:30 p.m.  Phew!  Although I was padded and harnessed everywhere, I did get to the hairdresser at 10 the next morning, did my grocery shopping and on Sunday went to my great-grandson’s birthday party.

When the anesthesiologist saw the vitamins I took, he said…

Gayle Carson in San Diego

November already–wow!  Hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween–mine was very quiet.  I am in San Diego and no one knocked on my door!  I am speaking at the San Diego Women’s Network tomorrow evening on How to Market on a Shoe-String Budget and am really looking forward to it.  I really believe in women running their own businesses and certainly having high level influence in companies they work for.

Breast cancer month is now over but don’t forget to keep getting your checkups.  It will save your life.  I am going in for my first surgery this Friday on the new procedure I told you about, so wish me luck.  I had great determination to be at the gym first thing the next morning, but they have warned me, I won’t be working out for a week.  We shall see.  I do have my great-grandson’s birthday party over the weekend, and I intend to be there with bells on.

Everybody be sure and vote tomorrow.  It’s our right and privilege to do so.  Whether you agree with what is going on or not, it’s your responsibility to have your say.  Isn’t it terrific that we can do…
