Gayle Carson – Spunky Old Broad

January 3, 2011

Are we going to have fun remembering to write 2011 on all our
checks and outgoing notes?  I  am thinking back to when we
thought that turning 2000 was going to be a disaster and people
actually stayed home believing something terrible was going to
happen and here we are in 2011!!

Met a wonderful woman Deborah Hurm and her friend when I went to
see Sharon Gless in a play Saturday evening.  Hopefully the pic
of the three of us made it to this newsletter.  Deborah herself
is an accomplished actress and the play really hit home as it’s
about a woman in her 60’s who has decided she wants to have sex
and find a fulfilling relationship.  And what a journey it is!

I also went to a “ladies only” birthday party for Eileen Burns
who is co-director of the local GKIC chapter.  It was a delightful
setting and gathering of the “tribe.”  We set out on the patio
of the Pelican Beach Hotel and while everyone else was freezing
up north, the balmy winds were blowing and we enjoyed ourselves
immensely.

Am studying all my DVD’s that I bought and have gotten through
8 of them.  There’s 20 in all and each are 2 hours.  But I’m
determined this is going to be a terrific 2011, thanks to all of
you, so I am learning and discovering new things.  I hope you
are all doing the same thing because if you don’t stimulate your
mind, you just shrivel up.

Was interviewed for two boomer radio shows and hope they will
impart some words of wisdom and encourage women who are 50 and
over to know that life is not over and is just beginning for all
of them.  And went to a board meeting for a friend of mine who
has established an arts foundation.  And she’s 87!  So never give
up, there is so much for you all to do.

Question and Answer:

Q:  I am so excited about becoming a whole new me, and decided this
is the year to do it.  I have set my goals, started my research and
am looking foward to accomplishing a lot.  Any advice as to how to
keep on track and not get sidetracked.

A:  First let me congratulate you on setting new goals and doing the
research that goes along with them.  I’m sure you know that you have
to take your yearly goals and break them into quarters, then months,
then weeks and then schedule something daily that inches you closer
and closer to them.  At the end of each day, I always ask myself
two questions.  “What positive thing happened to be today?” (And I
can always find something).  And “What did I do today to inch me
towards my goal?”  Hopefully you can find 3 small steps you took.
It could be a note to someone, a phone call, a new piece of infor-
mation, a new organization you went to.  But that’s the key.  Small
daily steps that are focused and intentional.  Don’t be in a rush
and stay true to yourself.
