Women Over 50 and Their Connections

The one thing I love about being over 50 is that I know a lot of people. While I was cleaning my office (an ongoing event), I came across names of people in my past and I started calling them. What a treat!

I found a young man who I knew when he was in college and now he’s married with a daughter and a great job. We had lunch!
I found a woman who I hadn’t seen in 10 years, called her and she is doing some fascinating new things including having written a new book. We had lunch!
I called a gentleman who I knew almost 20 years ago and he retired and started
a completely new business which shows you that men over 50 are still very active as well. We had lunch!

Are you seeing a theme here? Lots of lunches which is why I work out so much. I think one of the important things is that at this point in life, we need to stay in touch with those in our past not only the ones we see in our daily lives.

They offer us uniqueness, nostalgia, new information and…

Music and the Over 50 Crowd

I must confess that I hate rap music, don’t know most of the lyrics in today’s music because I can’t understand what they’re saying, and most of it just sounds like noise.

Yet, I find myself singing songs all the time, and when I stop and think about it, they’re mostly show tunes or songs from the 50′s and 60′s. I even love the songs from the 40′s (think Andrew Sisters) even though it does sound a little tinny.

When I’m in my own car, I often listen to CD’s on marketing, business and the like, but when I travel and rent a car, my first choice is classical, then pop, and then country (the lyrics of which I understand and make sense).

When I get in my son’s car (and he’s 45) the music is so loud, it blows me aways. The only loud music I listen to is at the gym where they have the music so loud, it just blasts your ear drums. And again, to me it’s just noise.

And that’s why our ballrooms are disappearing. No one likes the nice music or even the salsa beat. Maybe “Dancing with the Stars” will bring it…
