Women Over 50 Can Enjoy Trips

I’m here in San Diego where the weather is beautiful and just the right temperature. I love coming here every month and it serves as a respite for me even though I do a lot of work here and meet with a lot of friends and peers. Abby enjoys it as well as she barks at people from the balcony, goes out in the courtryard for her sunning, and generally has a grand old time.

I mentioned I was at the NSA convention last week, and I really enjoyed myself even though it was my 30th! They keep re-inventing themselves for the better and it’s so inspiring to see what other people are doing. You can keep to yourself and not learn anything new, or you can be amongst brilliant peers and gain a whole new perspective. Regardless, I thought it was fantastic and wrote several new action steps to take.

Took a mini Avatar course which is all about understanding your basic belief system. Mot sure I got it all yet, but bought the books and will read them and try to digest all these new thoughts. Isn’t it amazing that you can reach the…

What a week!  Have spent it in Santa Clara attending the Brendon Burchard program on Experts.  He really is a bundle of energy and has so many great thoughts and skills that my mind is bursting at the seams.  All good to stimulate the mind and make you realize how much more there is to learn and explore.

Weather was cold and rainy but I didn’t get out of the hotel very much so it didn’t matter.  However, sunshine still makes my world go round so I will be glad to get back to Miami Beach.  There were people from over 40 countries and many newcomers so it was an interesting mix.

Don’t forget that I will be doing another teleseminar onn Monday, March 28 at 7 p.m. EST.  It’s on weight loss and my guest is Marlene Siersema, who is a radio personality who has lost 170 pounds.  Her story is quite amazing and she will be both informative and entertaining.  Be sure you tell your friends so that we have a good group who will ask questions.

By the way, Brendan’s new book hit #1 on all the best sellers lists, and  he wrote it…

Women Over 50 Can Still Learn!

July 19. 2010

Here I am in Orlando at the National Speakers Association convention.  This is my 30th in a row and as my husband would have said “Don’t you know it yet?”   But I must tell you these are the most creative, bright people you’d want to meet in one spot and there are new ideas flying back and forth like crazy.  I already have at least 5 new ones written down and of course now the thing is to implement them.  I also had the honor of being elected as a Life Member of the Florida Speakers Association which is our local chapter.

Believe it or not, after all these years, I may be getting reconstruction on my breasts.  There’s a new procedure out which is not major surgery and the doctor who developed it is right in Miami.   I have a few more things I need to take care of before I do it, but it looks like a go.  Wow!  At my age, I’m going finally going to be a “hottie.”  But in reality, it should make my chest area far less tight and give me some comfort which I haven’t had  in a long time.…

Women over 50 Can Still Do Things Too!

July 12, 2010

Well, I’m back from the Chautauqua Institution, and it was a
wonderful week, although a very warm one.  I worked out every
day in the gym which wasn’t air conditioned, and it was like
being in a sweat box.  How we all survived, I don’t know, but
I was one solid bit of wet when I was done.

The speakers were magnificent and made me want to mentor and
teach even more.  The people who go to these lectures are quite
enlightened and posed great questions that had a lot of thought
and meaning behind them.

Combine that with the wonderful symphony concerts, the entertain-
ment (Tom Chapin and Tim Conway) and it was fantastic.  I had
front row seats for everything and just smiled my way through it.
I am a fantastic audience member because I just love everything.

Yesterday was a busy day at my home with my son and his friend
coming in the first shift, my granddaughter and great grandson in
the second, and then a realtor friend and his friend from the
West Coast of Florida after that.  But…

Over 50 Baby Boomers and the Economy

12th July, 2010 - Posted by gaylecarson - No Comments

According to American Express OPEN Economic Pulse, the baby boomer generation is not overly optimistic as to where the economy is going. Men are more positive than women however, and think the next 12 to 18 months will see some improvement.

Women are also more stressed out by the state of the economy than men. So how are they dealing with it? They are networking more and looking for referrals, joint ventures, new revenue streams and are using their personalities, contacts and ingenuity to keep their businesses running.

Since women have always been able to juggle many hats, this is just one more thing that they will do well. I love the fact that so many women are now in their own businesses. When I started (so many moons ago), I was really a lone ranger. However, it never stopped me and I always did quite well.

So for all of you S.O.B’s out there, don’t get discouraged and give it your all, because you deserve it.

Ethics and Leadership Retreat from your SOB

July 5, 2010

Happy Fourth of July everyone. I have had a whirlwind 7 days so far, and I am at the Chautauqua Institution for the week on Ethics and Leadership, two topics very close to my heart. For those of you who don’t know anything about the Institution, it’s where lectures began in the late 1800’s. It is well known for art, politics, dance, music etc and each week has a different theme. I am here with my sister and brother-in-law and we have heard from some distinguished people so far including David Brooks, of the NY Times and the Lehrer Report.

To change the subject, last week I saw Joan Rivers Life Story, and I must says she reminded me of me because she is driven and sometimes does 4 or 5 engagements in a day. I think she’s a little raw, but she is very intelligent. I had my picture taken with her about two months ago, and she was most humble and considerate. She also told me three times she “loved my jacket” and made me feel terrific. I think the main thing she wants is to leave a legacy and be remembered, and that’s what…

50th college reunion

2nd July, 2010 - Posted by gaylecarson - No Comments

This coming weekend I am heading up to Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts for my 50th reunion.  It is so hard for me to believe it’s that long since I left because I have been so active with them.  First on the Board of Alumni, then a brief stint on the Board of Trustees and then for ten years on the Board of Overseers, so I have seen how the college has grown and developed and wish I could attend all over again.  My girlfriend, Shelly Abrams and I are doing a skit at the reunion lunch and it has a few “dirty words” in it.  When I asked our chair whether it would be “o.k.” he said “Well, you know, they are older.”  I said, “That’s us.  We are them!”  Interesting how we don’t see ourselves as old but everyone else around us probably does.  Anyway, I am really looking forward to seeing my old friends, experiencing the “vibes” again, and I get to see the guy I cheerleaded for who I haven’t seen in 50 years!  I know I can still leap, but can he toss that ball?
