Well I’m a year older–not sure if I’m a year wiser, but I sure am trying to keep myself up with what is happening. So be sure you tune in Thursday night at 7 p.m. EST for my heart health teleseminar. The number to call is 712-432-1620 and your access code is 260758#
Spent my birthday with a wonderful friend, Sandra Schrift, The Speakers Coach, at an Indian restaurant in San Diego. She is always a delight–so smart, so up to date, so inspiring and to think our friendship goes back to the time she booked me when she owned a speakers bureau.
Have had some meetings, made some new friends, and braved the rain. It seems like when it rains in San Diego, people stay in, confess they don’t know how to drive in it and generally are in a funk. Then last night, the lights went out for 12 hours! Seems some underground wiring went wrong. So I went to bed early and got up early.
People think I’m crazy going back and forth the way I do and taking dear Abby with me, but I love it. And let me tell you what my daughter gave me for my birthday. A beautiful sweater with a Siamese Cat on one shoulder and a Yorkie on the other hip. On the back are the names of all the pets we’ve owned (a lot) embroidered in various colors. Amazing. I would never think of that but she is so creative. My son got me a Kindle and granddaughter gave me movie passes. And we had cake!! All in all, a great time.

Question and Answer:
Q: I know you have tackled this before but I have just been laid off from my job and it doesn’t seem like I’m relevant anymore. When I send out a resume, there are 600 other people applying for the same job. Any ideas?
A: Well, as you know, I am a great believer in creating your own destiny. What are your strengths and what is your passion? Is there a way to combine the two and offer your services to several people? You may be able to get by on less money in the beginning if you can work from home, don’t need professional clothing and spend less on gas etc. People are looking for “done for you” kind of services and if you can provide that, you could do very well. In fact, if you get enough clients, you might be able to sub-contract the work out to others and have a staff working for you. It’s just a thought, but this way, you are in control of your own life instead of someone else controlling yours. Otherwise, otherwise the pickings can get slim.

Tips:
1. Beware of giving advice–even if it’s asked for.
2. Success doesn’t come easily but if you keep your eye on the ball. It will come faster.
3. Be alert and tune out distractions and concentrate on what’s being said–which means look up and don’t text all the time.
(I am always amazed how people don’t run into trees and light bulbs because they never look up while they are walking!!)
