This is my last day in San Diego. It has been fantastic. I always feel so much at peace here and it connects with me on a whole new level.
While here, I have been so busy with friends and meetings and Abby and I have been on the go. All of it is good however, because I have an energy here that never stops. When I arrived, after I did my grocery shopping and took care of Abby, I was off to the local GKIC meeting. John Assaraf was speaking and he was talking directly to me that night. I was also introduced as the person who had come the farthest.
Then the next day I was at a Women’s Wisdom meeting and the program was wonderful. I’m going to another one this evening before leaving in the morning. Thursday was a working day but lots of positive things happened so it was invigorating. On Friday I met with someone I know from 20 years ago, and we will be doing an interview in the near future. Had lunch with another friend who booked me for speeches many years ago, and on Saturday went to an Abraham-Hicks seminar which also touched me deeply.
Had dinner with another friend and yesterday finally had lunch with my former roomie from college who has had some challenges. She and her daughter-in-law met Abby and I for lunch. It was terrific. Today I have one final lunch meeting and then Women’s Wisdom once again. And yes, I have visited the gym every day. We do a “Body Pump” class that is very challenging so I get my workout in a powerful way.
Tomorrow I wind my way back home and hope that “Irene” decides to leave Miami Beach out of its path.

Question and Answer:
Q: I am now finishing my first year in business and it has been a struggle but I am happy I did it. My question is–is there anything I can do that will speed up my success or do I just have to keep plugging along?
A: You didn’t say what kind of business you have, but first of all, let me congratulate you on going into business for yourself and making it through that first tough year. Yes, you have to keep plugging because that’s what it takes, but the best thing you can do is start a dedicated referral program. Referrals are the easiest sell and will turn into other referrals for you. You should also cultivate relationships online and make yourself visible by writing articles, doing interviews and joining organizations that will be good for your business. One thing you have probably found out is that you are probably working harder than you ever did, but you feel happier. Eventually you will have all the systems in place that will let you automate a lot of what you do and begin to delegate the things you can to others allowing you to do the things you do best which is business development.

Tips:
1. Success carries with it responsibility. The responsibility to inspire others, to live up to an image, to live life to its fullest, and to be the best you can possibly be.
2. Positive stress prepares us for the event that is going to happen. It gives us the ability to perform and follow through.
3. Develop a sense of humor. People like to be around others who are pleasant and enjoyable.

For my article this week, I thought I would give you an idea of my life in one short swoop. Hope you enjoy it.
I was 3 years old when I told my mother I wanted a career and was never going to get married! That was also when I was in my first dancing recital and took charge when my crown fell off during the performance. Everyone was laughing because I put it on backwards, so I stopped the piano player, waited until everyone calmed down and resumed my dance. Does that sound like control?
In 1959, at the age of 21, I went into my own business long before it was fashionable for a woman. I grew it to 7 offices and managed 350 people while enjoying each obstacle, challenge and crisis along with the great wins and victories of course. During that time I got married to a man with two children and before I knew it, I was pregnant. So there I was, within 13 months of marriage, with 3 children, a business to run, a dog and cat, and the most incredible and tolerant husband in the world.
Do you know how unusual it was back then to find a man who wasn’t threatened by a strong woman and who had the confidence and trust to let her (me) be a free spirit? Anyway, we made it through 45 years of a loving marriage before he passed away.
Three bouts of breast cancer also entered my life just to make sure I was paying attention. After 15 surgeries, I have now decided to go through some more so I can soften and stabilize the skin I have left. Chemo and radiation were all part of the treatment, however I am quite fortunate that I never got sick. That’s where physical and mental conditioning come in, and I am thankful for that.
I pursued a speaking and consulting career that took me to 50 countries and 49 states (North Dakota saw no need for me at all), with 1000 clients in 50 different industries. I met the most fascinating people and saw incredible sights. I traveled from first class to driving a taxi over 600 miles because the driver fell asleep and couldn’t go any further. I took Greyhound buses and was picked up in limousines. I held lion cubs in Africa and saw the Irish army guarding malls in Belfast. “Whose life is this anyway?”
I now live a bi-coastal lifestyle going from Miami Beach to San Diego with my little dog Abby in tow. I adore animals and when the kids were little, we had 5 dogs and 3 cats. Now it’s Abby and 2 cats. There is nothing like an animal for comfort, love and companionship.
Currently, I guide, mentor and work with women over 50 on how to live a regret free life–don’t we deserve it? It’s our time ladies and that’s why I’m known as Dr. Gayle–S.O.B. Spunky Old Broad. I believe we need to be in charge of our own lives and not look to anyone or anything else for our happiness.
I also believe that if women over 50 who live regret free are the most powerful for on this planet. Let’s lead the charge.
