Had a most spectacular time on Saturday. The president of my college (Emerson College) is retiring in June after 20 years. Although I went to a celebration for her in Boca Raton at the Polo Club the end of January, they had another celebration for her in Los Angeles this past weekend. Since I am m San Diego, I thought I might as well drive up for the night. (Had to come back the same day because I had Abby with me).
Well, it was at the home of Kevin Bright who was the Executive Producer of…

I missed last week because my 99 1/2 year old mother passed away. Her funeral was on Monday and then I spent the time in Syracuse with my family. Because she was someone I always admired, I am taking the liberty of posting my euology to her on this blog. She was my inspiration.
All my life, I’ve been asked who my mentor was—and all my life I’ve always said my mother. She gave me incredible strength and even a better direction in life. She made me face reality,…

I must confess that I hate rap music, don’t know most of the lyrics in today’s music because I can’t understand what they’re saying, and most of it just sounds like noise.
Yet, I find myself singing songs all the time, and when I stop and think about it, they’re mostly show tunes or songs from the 50′s and 60′s. I even love the songs from the 40′s (think Andrew Sisters) even though it does sound a little tinny.
When I’m in my own car, I often listen to CD’s on marketing, business and the like, but when I…

According to American Express OPEN Economic Pulse, the baby boomer generation is not overly optimistic as to where the economy is going. Men are more postive than women however, and think the next 12 to 18 months will see some improvement.
Women are also more stressed out by the state of the economy than men. So how are they dealing with it? They are networking more and looking for referrals, joint ventures, new revenue streams and are using their personalities, contacts and ingenuity to keep their businesses running.
Since women have always been able to juggle many hats, this is…

I prefer to call all of us "Champions" even though more people seem to recognize the term survivors. I believe we are all champions because we had a battle and met it with success. In my case, it was three times. It was interesting to me that many people totally changed how they lived their lives after their diagnosis. I kept on doing what I had been because it was what I loved to do. Why anybody would choose to do something they disliked or work for a company that didn't respect them, was always beyond my imagination. Now, I…

I’m spending the week in San Diego and Imust tell you it is delightful! So far, I have been out to dinner or lunch every day, seen Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance which I found out has been conssecutively on stage every day since it was produced,
However, when I saw the play here, there were many "over 50"s" in the ctowd and they were laughing up a storm. One thing about SD, thete are tons of theatres here and always something good being produced.
when I went to LaJolla to sightsee, the seals were on the beach…

Unfortunately in Miami Beach, it is still hot, hot, hot. But the kids are back in school and Labor Day has come and gone, so it feels like we are in the home stretch of 2009. Believe it or not, I took an online Defensive Driving course to lower my insurance rate, and I can't believe how much I didn't know. I suggest it to everyone who thinks they have the answers to what correct driving is. I went from 53% on my pre-test to a passing score on my post test after study. Amazing!
Spent the weekend catching up…

I spent this last weekend at the Fitness Fusion Conference in Chicago. It was my first time at this smaller conference as I always go to the big World Conference in the summer. But my kids want to go to Michigan for the Coast Guard festinval in my husband’s home town, and it conflicts so I decided to go to this one.
I loved it! Smaller, less crowded, not as hectic and the classes were fantastic. Learned a lot of new technique, saw some new equipment and the instructors were all warm, friendly, humble and gracious.
We were all ages,…

It has been a whirlwind month. It started with a trip to NYC where we did a book launch for my new book "Big Ideas for Your Business" which reached #7 on Amazon's best seller list. It was something amazing and we had a press party at the Grand Hyatt and the actual launch at the Hard Rock. We capped it off with a boat tour around Manhattan and stopped at the Statue of Liberty so we could all remember where we came from and why we're so lucky to live in this country.
From there I went to an…

This is the best time of your life and you need to take advantage of it. You’ve been paying attention to everyone else all these years and now it’s time for you. You may be an empty nester, or you and your partner may finally get a chance to do what the two of you want, or you may be part of the “sandwich generation” where you are taking care of elderly parents as well as children/grandchildren. However, somewhere in there has to be time for you. What is it you’ve always dreamed about doing or becoming, where have you…
